ISRAEL 9 2009: Yad Vashem Holocaust Memorial campus

I toured Jerusalem on my own on October 21st. I had never been to Yad Vashem (which means "a memorial and a name"): And I shall give them in My house within My walls a memorial and a name that shall not be cut off. —Isaiah 56:5. The campus, designed by Moshe Safdie, covers 45 acres, and includes a new Holocaust Memorial Museum which opened in 2005.

  • 3-Floor plan, Holocaust History Museum. The museum—180 meters (190 ft) long—cuts directly through the Har Hazikaron mountainside. Visitors enter at grade, proceed into the mountain to the lowest underground point in the center of the museum, then upward to the exit. Low transition barriers give an overview of the exhibition in the next gallery and direct the traffic (in the letter order shown).
