ISTANBUL 4 (Archaeology Museum)
More than 1 million pieces, but I have only 33 photos from the Istanbul Archaeology Museum (opened 1881): pre-classical and classic statues, carved sarcophagi, Turkish ceramics. 15-The Alexander Sarcophagus, late 4th century BCE. Stone adorned with bas-relief carvings of Alexander the Great. Well preserved and celebrated for high aesthetic achievement. Considered the Museum's outstanding holding. Carvings on this side depict Alexander fighting the Persians at the Battle of Issus.
