Vienna 1: Belvedere Gardens
Prince Eugen of Savoy, famous for his defeat of the Turks in 1683, commissioned the two Belvedere Palaces with the monetary reward he received for his victories during the Spaish Succession. They were built 1714-23. On my first (very rainy) day in Vienna, I saw probably two of the four floors of art for which the Upper Belvedere is famous. Among the most famous is The Kiss, by Gustav Klimt, 1909. I returned on a sunnier day to take the bulk of the photos in this gallery. (Adjust your screen brightness as necessary.)
